About the position

The position involves providing psychological and educational support and counseling to new parents through home visits and classroom settings. The role includes educating parents on positive parenting skills, promoting healthy pregnancies, fostering positive parent-child attachment behaviors, recognizing newborn cues, and enhancing couples' communication to prevent family violence. The individual will also provide information on available services and refer parents to appropriate military and civilian agencies for assistance. Additionally, the position requires planning, developing, and implementing programs to enhance parenting skills and prevent child abuse, conducting clinical assessments, and collaborating with agencies to provide necessary services. The role also includes maintaining case records, ensuring confidentiality, and marketing the New Parent Support Program (NPSP) through various channels.

Responsibilities

  • Perform support services via home visits and in a classroom setting.
  • Provide education in positive parenting skills and promote healthy pregnancies.
  • Educate parents on recognizing newborn infant cues and promoting effective couples communication.
  • Provide information and education on available services and refer parents to appropriate agencies.
  • Plan, develop, and implement programming to enhance parent-child attachment.
  • Conduct clinical assessments of families and children receiving services.
  • Collaborate with related agencies to offer appropriate services.
  • Provide early intervention services to first-time parents and families at risk.
  • Consult with local hospital professionals regarding abuse and at-risk individuals.
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts to stay updated on relevant research and practices.
  • Maintain individual case records in accordance with regulations and ensure confidentiality.
  • Market the NPSP through various venues and participate in special events.
  • Provide World Class Customer Service and assist customers positively.
  • Report workplace hazards and adhere to safety regulations.
  • May travel to complete work assignments and attend conferences.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in social work, behavioral or social science, or a related discipline.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice social work or marriage and family therapy.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience in child abuse and/or domestic abuse, or maternal and/or child health.
  • Registered Nurses with a bachelor's degree in nursing must have a current nonrestrictive U.S. nursing license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of military organizational mission and lifestyle contributing to family stress.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense Instructions and federal/state human services laws.
  • Skill to develop and maintain effective relationships with military leaders and professionals.
  • Possess a valid driver's license to conduct home visits.
  • Successfully complete a criminal history background check every five years.
