About The Position

The Home Health Aide (HHA) at VITAS Healthcare is a non-exempt role focused on providing personal care and services to hospice patients, enhancing the care provided by family members and other caregivers. The HHA is responsible for assisting patients with daily living activities, maintaining hygiene, and supporting their emotional well-being while adhering to specific care plans and guidelines.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Documented evidence of 75 hours of training as specified in 42 C.F.R. Sections 484.36 (a)(1).
• Successful completion of a Competency Evaluation program as described in 42 C.F.R. Section 484.36(b).
• Ability to read, write, and carry out directions.
• Ability to travel as required for the job.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting.
• Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA).

Responsibilities

• Help patients maintain good personal hygiene.
• Plan and prepare meals for patients.
• Feed or assist with feeding patients when needed.
• Assist patients with ambulation.
• Assist with treatments as ordered by the physician, including changing colostomy bags and reinforcing dressings.
• Measure intake and output of fluids and assist with self-administered medications.
• Read and record temperature, pulse, and respiration.
• Promote the patient's mental alertness through engaging activities.
• Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families.
• Report changes in the patient's condition to the VITAS Nurse and interdisciplinary team.
• Teach basic personal care to primary caregivers.
• Practice basic infection control measures.
• Observe, report, and document patient status and care activities.
• Complete at least 12 hours of in-service training per year.
