About The Position

Rockland Trust is currently seeking a Home Equity Underwriter I. This role is responsible for underwriting and approving home equity lines of credit, home equity loans, and consumer loans originated through the branch network, call center, online channels and direct mail marketing efforts. The Underwriter I is expected to demonstrate strong analytical skills when reviewing financial and real estate documentation and to exercise sound judgment in making independent credit decisions. All decisions must be made in accordance with established policies and underwriting guidelines while maintaining a high level of risk awareness, regulatory compliance, and overall credit quality.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with strong self-motivation to effectively manage, monitor and prioritize a high-volume underwriting queue and pipeline
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive reviews of personal and business tax returns and financial statements and supporting documentation to assess borrower credit worthiness and ability to repay.
  • Ability to perform thorough analysis of consumer credit, income and collateral/property value to ensure loans are approved within established risk tolerances.
  • Strong knowledge of Consumer Lending and Home Equity real estate products.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document decisions and communicate effectively with internal partners
  • Detail oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy while working in a fast paced, high volume, paperless environment
  • Working knowledge of regulations and compliance requirements related to residential and consumer underwriting, including but not limited to TRID, Flood Insurance requirements, Qualified Mortgage standards, Reg B (ECOA) and HMDA
  • Associates’ degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant lending or underwriting experience
  • 1+ year of experience in consumer lending, underwriting or credit analysis.
  • Experience in residential and consumer lending platforms and other related technology.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Ensure loans meet the quality standards, policy and guidelines of the Bank by making sound lending decisions within lending authority.
  • Maintain, manage and monitor a working queue and large pipeline
  • Confidently, recommend decisions on loans outside of lending authority to management
  • Assist in loan reviews related to compliance, post-closing/funding, audits and exams and manage timely responses to all requests.
  • Work closely with Retail Branch and other business units, provide product and workflow/process guidance to ensure an exemplary customer experience
  • Continually review technology and process to recommend improvements and identify issues management
  • Review and decision other lending requests such as rate modifications, HELOC conversion loans and subordinations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and business partners
