About The Position

The San Diego Community College District is seeking applications for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions in Home Economics-Food/Nutrition. This position is part of a pool for possible assignments across the district's three college campuses and various continuing education centers. The adjunct faculty will provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines, maintain professional conduct, and be available to students outside of class. Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes. The role offers flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Home Economics, Life Management, Family and Consumer Studies, Dietetics, Food Management, Interior Design, or Clothing and Textiles; OR
• Associate degree in Home Economics, Life Management, Family and Consumer Studies, Dietetics, Food Management, Interior Design, or Clothing and Textiles; AND four (4) years of professional experience related to the subject of the course taught; OR the equivalent.
• Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Nice To Haves

• Full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject of the course taught.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
• Teach all scheduled classes.
• Maintain accurate records.
• Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests, and issues.
