About The Position

The Hockey Instructor is a Part-Time Position. We offer competitive compensation, PTO and an employee discount for part-time employees. Under the direction of the Hockey Program Supervisor, the position of the In-House Hockey Instructor is responsible for providing instruction, direction, and safety to all students in PDOP Hockey classes and clinics. This position is also responsible for subbing or aiding in other classes as well as assisting with all other In-House Hockey functions and special events. An In-House Hockey Instructor is expected to comply with all Park District of Oak Park policies and procedures as well as rules put forth by the In-House Hockey Program. In addition, this position should conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times while at the rink.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Participation in previous hockey program.
  • Strong skating abilities.
  • Completion of all in-house pre-season trainings (done after hire.)
  • Availability to work within In-House Hockey Program times (Youth: Wednesday Evenings & Sunday Mornings, Adult: Tuesday Mornings/ Evenings, Friday Evenings, Sunday Mornings/ Evenings).
  • Certification in advanced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with all Park District and In-House Hockey Program policies, rules and regulations.
  • Become familiar with the structure and organization of the In-House Hockey Program including class descriptions and general information.
  • Provide level specific instruction to participants based upon current and Park District In-House Hockey Program lesson plans and standards.
  • Complete all paperwork as assigned including, but not limited to, attendance sheets, mid-session evaluations, and end of session evaluations.
  • Begin and end all classes and clinics on time with all materials put away.
  • Arrive at the rink no less than 30 minutes before class.
  • Be ready for class no less than five minutes before classes begin.
  • If running late, please reach out to the Hockey Program Supervisor.
  • Limit absences and secure substitutes no less than 1 week prior to the scheduled date.
  • Complete all required paperwork in advance of missing class- Paycom PTO, W2W availability, written and/or verbal communication.
  • Attend all required pre-season trainings and in-season meetings.
  • Distribute all flyers, promotional materials, and handouts as assigned.
  • Continue to expand hockey instruction knowledge through readings, seminars, and other educational opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with all other In-House Hockey Program instructors and personnel.
  • Bring problems or issues regarding the In-House Hockey Program or rink to the attention of the Hockey Program Supervisor.
