About The Position

To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency(LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be bilingual in English and language to be interpreted, solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
• Strong ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and be culturally competent.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, their families and health care providers.
• Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
• Ability to produce written translation of material, such as: various forms, documents, patient letters and other material.
• Travel between locations during shift is required.
• Formal interpreter training. 40 hour medical interpretation training program.
• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in providing medical interpreting in English and the target language is required.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is preferred.
• Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
• Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in related field is preferred.
• Professional Medical Interpreter Program is preferred.
• CCHI or NBCMI Certification is preferred.
