About The Position

The Youth Support Liaison serves on the HIU team supporting youth helping them to identify natural supports. YSL’s are coached, trained and supervised so that they can use their experiences and their trainings to help collaborate with system partners to better engage and support young people and their voice and choice as they navigate systems and move towards their goals. The HIU YSL will work with youth of all ages who are involved with the HIU and A Second Chance Inc. The goal of the HIU YSL is to enable youth assigned to the HIU to become self-reliant, independent, self-advocates and responsible for their own actions.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED, and 1 year of combined work experience
  • Personal experience in receiving services from child welfare, juvenile justice, behavioral health, drug & alcohol, or homeless services or a combination of these areas.
  • Current Act 33 and Act 34 Clearances
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Access to an insured, registered vehicle that can be used for employment
  • Available to work flexible schedule (weekend hours as scheduled)
  • Carry agency-issued cell phone
  • Registration, as well as an operable and functional vehicle - if you do not have a license, you would need to be able to secure these within 6 months of being hired
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Receive and submit HIU front line dailies.
  • Co- facilitate Camp COPES Recruitment for Camp COPES Programs
  • Rotate on the YES Curriculum group Sessions.
  • Complete YES Curriculum during 1-1 engagements with youth on his caseload
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills needed
  • Fluency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint a must
  • Carry a caseload of 12-15 youth assigned to the HIU and work the full high impact process for service delivery
  • Carry a caseload that will consist of youth who are associated with juvenile probation.
  • Speaking up for the youth in various settings – 1 on 1; in small groups; at meetings and large conferences, etc.
  • Acting as a resource on youth transition through the collection of information about the needs of young adults in any DHS System that are involved with the HIU
  • Providing information regarding educational opportunities
  • Working independently, as well as with teams, to assist youth in identifying and coordinating services, community resources and natural supports
  • Coordinating youth involvement in a variety of opportunities, including but not limited to conference attendance involving out of town travel
  • Coordinating youth involvement in evaluation projects
  • Assisting with the creation of publications, list serves, websites and/or social media to promote and support related youth development activities
  • Working with family members and other professionals to assist youth with moving toward permanency.
  • Educating youth on how to advocate for their needs; have a voice and choice in matters related to their lives
  • Creating partnerships with youth and professionals to help meet their needs
  • Educating youth on independence and recovery
  • Coordinating and helping facilitate support groups and/or social events
  • Providing outreach, recruiting and identifying youth for the program
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of the HIU team.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have a sense of personal responsibility and accountability
  • Knowledge of and some success with your own skills such as budgeting, pursuing and maintaining educational objectives and understanding basic life skills
  • Serve in an on-call capacity with a rotation with Point of contact.
  • Programming responsibilities
  • This position requires a flexible work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
