Job Description: Histology Technologist Port Jefferson, NY Hours: Per diem In this role, you will: Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures, performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides, for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s). Capable of performing all of the duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnician. Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples. Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting. Ensure proper tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy. Perform coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated. Performs recuts requested by a Pathologist. Prepare solutions and reagents for stain procedures. Perform stains procedures. Well experienced in IHC instrumentation and stains. Perform filing of finished blocks and slides. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshooting minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs and repeated tests. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, and document all quality control activities. Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met. Ensure compliance with all local, federal, NY State, CLIA, and CAP regulations. Maintain a clean and well-organized work area. Responsible for training and cross-training other employees. Other duties, as assigned by the supervisor.
