As a Histotechnologist, you will deliver clear, top-quality slides for microscopic examination. You will prepare each specimen with pristine precision, including tissue fixation, dehydration, sectioning, mounting and special staining. Ultimately, your efforts are critical to our ability to diagnosis and treat numerous conditions, allowing you to positively influence the comprehensive care provided at Cleveland Clinic. A caregiver in this position works 3:00am - 11:30am

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or a related field OR meet the CLIA qualifications for Histotechnologist (HTL)
  • Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements concerning chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogens

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on laboratory experience from an accredited Histotechnology School or one year of prior Histology Laboratory experience

Responsibilities

  • Transport tissue specimens to the Laboratory.
  • Perform immunohistochemical and in-situ hybridization procedures, including handling and storage of probes and antibodies.
  • Analyze and evaluate assays for sensitivity and specificity.
  • Embed and prepare sections by cutting frozen or paraffin embedded tissue for immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization or other special procedures.
  • Mount, label and distribute prepared microscope slides to Pathologists or appropriate areas for interpretation.
  • Prepare reagents buffers, solutions and stains.
  • Replace reagents and perform daily maintenance on automated instrumentation.
  • File surgical and autopsy blocks used for immunohistochemical techniques.
