About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join their Histology team in Shelton, CT. This role offers an $8,500 sign-on bonus for external candidates. The Histotechnologist will be responsible for processing human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination, performing technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens, and conducting various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections. Key tasks include sectioning embedded tissue using a microtome, mounting sections on microscope slides, processing sections through routine and special staining procedures, and properly orienting and embedding surgical tissue specimens. The role also involves preparing necessary stains and reagents, reporting accurate and timely test results to ensure quality patient care, and operating and maintaining manual and automated instruments. The individual will perform and document equipment maintenance, record log data, and adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 1 or more years of histology experience
  • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Nice To Haves

  • 3 months or more of histology experience
  • 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications

Responsibilities

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
