About The Position

The Histotechnologist supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) through participation in all aspects of histology operations including patient test management, test performance and evaluation, results analysis and reporting, quality control, and quality assurance under the general supervision of the Histotechnologist Supervisor/Manager of Clinical Laboratories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) in science or related field.
  • One (1) year full-time of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of relevant medical terminology is preferred.
  • Experience with database applications preferred.
  • Nevada Histotechnologist License required
  • Certified Histotechnologist HTL (ASCP) certification required.
  • Meets current state, federal and other regulatory agency (College of American Pathologist (CAP)) educational/experience requirements.
  • Required to have a personal cell phone.
  • Occasionally required to travel by personal auto to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cut histological section of good quality for morphological and immunohistochemical analyses.
  • Performs routine and complex analysis of patient specimens according to standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluates specimen acceptability upon receipts and during the review of analysis results.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken.
  • Performs secondary review of patient results when required to ensure accuracy of primary result entry.
  • Assists with gross examination maintaining an accurate log of specimens using the lab computer.
  • Answers questions and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions.
  • Performs a variety of specialized chemical and immunohistochemical stains using appropriate controls.
  • Maintains records of prepared specimens: labels stained, and finished slides examines sample and stained slides with microscope to ascertain results.
  • Prepares solution and reagents in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Maintains equipment in laboratory.
  • Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
  • Identifies and assists in resolving operational and technical problems.
  • Participates in on-call rotation as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required/requested.
  • Employees must adhere to and remain in full compliance with Nevada Donor Network’s Motor Vehicle Driving Policy as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Records and Driver Safety policy PC.334.
