About The Position

Independently works to perform routine and special histological procedures on patient tissue specimens.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent HLT (ASCP) certification or eligible and obtained within one (1) year of hire or transfer.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred Clinical histology experience.

Responsibilities

• Embeds, sections, accurately labels and processes tissue sections in accordance with department policies and procedures to produce slides for pathologist's review.
• Performs routine and special staining procedures.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
• Serves as a consultant to histotechnicians and other health care providers as needed.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
• May assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens.
• May mentor students and new employees in laboratory testing following WPAHS policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
