About The Position

The Histotechnologist I processes surgical, autopsy, and study specimens for pathologic diagnosis. Responsibilities include tissue fixation, processing, freezing, microtomy, frozen sectioning, and staining slides for microscopic examination by the Pathologist

Requirements

Associate’s degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Graduate from an approved school of Histotechnology is required.
Maintains a current Florida license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Qualification: Histology Technologist).
Certified as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL), or eligible for either certification through a professional laboratory agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Responsibilities

Performs basic histotechnology staining techniques.
Operates computerized equipment for processing and staining specimens.
Uses the laboratory computer system to add, cancel, and verify completed orders.
Performs and documents quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.
Troubleshoots instruments, processing, and staining processes.
Places engineering and biomed service requests as needed.
Prepares stock and working reagents and maintains an adequate supply.
Receives and processes specimens, answers the telephone, and greets guests to the department.
Reports all unacceptable quality control and instrument failures to a senior technologist, pathology coordinator, manager, and/or Pathologist, and documents discrepancies and their resolutions.
Assumes at least one of the following responsibilities: outside facility frozen section room maintenance, projects, teaching, tech in charge, reagent validations, or evaluation of new technology.
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
