About The Position

The position is for a full-time Histology Technician at Carolinas Medical Center, requiring 40 hours per week on the 1st shift. The technician will perform frozen section preparations, ensuring that tissue is embedded, cut, and stained correctly for prompt diagnosis. Responsibilities include performing routine and special stains, recognizing deviations from expected results, assisting with autopsies, preparing and organizing tissue specimens, and ensuring accurate specimen handling for testing. The role also involves completing daily procedures with accuracy and maintaining a neat and retrievable storage of specimens.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a HT or HTL (ASCP) program and must obtain certification within one year of completing the program or one year from hire date.
• Certified HT or HTL (ASCP) with one year of experience required.
• Uncertified HT with at least three years of experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform frozen section preparations within expected time.
• Ensure tissue is embedded properly, cut accurately, and stained correctly.
• Perform routine, special stains, and immune histochemical stains.
• Recognize deviations from expected results and determine appropriate actions.
• Assist with autopsies according to standard procedures.
• Prepare and organize tissue specimens and assist in gross examination.
• Prepare specimens for testing and ensure order accuracy.
• Store or dispose of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks neatly.
• Complete required daily procedures with accuracy.
