WI-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison Worker Type: Regular Job Highlights: This is a full-time day shift Histotechnician position working 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours. No weekends! This role can be filled as certified or non-certified but candidates with cutting, trimming, necropsy, and Mohs experience are highly preferred. Job Summary: Supervises assignments within the laboratory and acts as a resource to the laboratory, under general supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Collects, labels, processes and preserves tissue specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
• Prepares sections of tissue for immediate examination, using frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain specimens.
• Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the pathologist.
• May perform embedding, cutting, and staining of tissues and pathology specimens received, with assistance.
• May perform basic histology special stains using manual or automated methods as appropriate, with assistance.
• May maintain equipment in histology as required, with assistance.
• Cleans and maintains adequate laboratory supplies and work areas.
• Performs general histological duties as well as cytology specimen prep work.
• Analyzes and records data.
• Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab.
• Maintains competencies and continuing education to keep informed of new developments in field.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
