About The Position

The Histotechnician will receive, accession, process, embed, cut, stain, mount and label surgical specimens for examination by the pathologist.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician program within the last 5 years, or have a current HT(ASCP) certification.
  • At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry.
  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry.
  • One year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of Histology experience preferred.
  • ASCP certification (HT-ASCP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist.
  • Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
  • Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
  • Follows established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
  • Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships.
  • Uses Patient/Family center values/Conducts all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families.
