Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, with 16 hospitals and more than 34,000 team members serving Hoosiers across the state. They seek team members inspired by challenging and meaningful work, who are compassionate, serve with purpose, and aspire to excellence. The laboratories of IU Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and performing over 19 million tests annually for IU Health and other hospitals and physicians nationwide. The Histotechnician at LAB prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to aid in patient diagnosis. This involves processing, embedding, cutting, and staining surgical, biopsy, and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review. The role also includes performing complex histological procedures, analyzing and correcting problems using scientific principles, analyzing and recording data, and performing instrument maintenance according to established protocols. The Histotechnician works within defined technical processes and procedures, may help determine approaches for new assignments, and operates with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight primarily on complex new assignments. They also serve as an informal resource for less experienced colleagues.
