About The Position

This is a full time day shift Histotechnician position for St. Mary's Hospital in Madison working 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for a total of 40 hours per week. No weekends or holidays! Certified and experienced candidates are preferred and encouraged to apply. A one-time sign on bonus is available to qualified individuals for up to $10,000 (less taxes) with a 2 year service commitment.

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Collects, labels, processes and preserves tissue specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
• Prepares sections of tissue for immediate examination, using frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain specimens.
• Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the pathologist.
• May perform embedding, cutting, and staining of tissues and pathology specimens received, with assistance.
• May perform basic histology special stains using manual or automated methods as appropriate, with assistance.
• May maintain equipment in histology as required, with assistance.
• Cleans and maintains adequate laboratory supplies and work areas.
• Performs general histological duties as well as cytology specimen prep work.
• Analyzes and records data.
• Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab.
• Maintains competencies and continuing education to keep informed of new developments in field.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
