The Histotechnician III performs histological preparations for Signatera Whole Exome/Genome Sequencing. Requirements

  • A bachelor's, or higher, degree in a histotechnician program OR A bachelor's, or higher, degree in one of the chemical, or biological sciences, including a combination of thirty (30) hours in biology and chemistry; and, either one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR completion of a course of training of at least nine months in an histotechnician program OR An associate's degree, or higher, in one of the chemical, or biological sciences AND one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program
  • A copy of the degree is required at time of hire; the degree must either be from the US or equivalent to a US bachelor's degree
  • HT(ASCP) required
  • Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training, and security training as soon as possible, but not later than the first 30 days of hire
  • 4+ years of related experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome/genome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors
  • Prepare tissues, stained slides, macrodissection, and support workflow tasks
  • May independently perform testing, reagent, and equipment preparation after completion of training and competency
  • Participate in validations
  • Perform qualifications of reagents
  • Monitor and perform case management; ensure all cases are processed within department TAT goals and investigate sample processing issues
  • Actively participate in EH&S initiatives such as safety audits
  • Participate in updating and creating Standard Operating Procedures
  • May serve as the general supervisor (Depending on education and years of experience) and perform competencies
  • Train staff on department procedures
  • Participate in Projects and initiatives initiated by the department/external departments
  • Be an expert in the entire lab process and identify/troubleshoot issues before they arise
  • Perform and complete an independent continuous improvement project, Yellow Belt or higher
  • Assist teammates in completing daily tasks and facilitate workflow as needed
  • Assist in planning workflow
  • Step in when the supervisor is unavailable
  • Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols
  • Be a specialist in resolving equipment malfunctions
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the established performance specifications as needed
  • Escalate protocol deviation to the lead/supervisor
  • Identify workflow issues, provide suggestions
  • Provide general oversight of personnel and the daily operations in the lab
  • Provide guidance to new team members
  • Engage with external departments such as Engineering, Biodev, Stats to resolve issues and suggest possible solutions for long term fixes
  • Network with senior internal and external representatives in own area of expertise
  • May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other lower level personnel
