About The Position

The Grossing Histotechnician plays a crucial role in the Surgical Pathology team at Mayo Clinic, focusing on the accurate processing of surgical pathology specimens to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment. This position requires attention to detail, proficiency in laboratory systems, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in histology, biology, or related field with a minimum of 1 year histology experience; or an Associate of Science degree with a minimum of 3 years histology experience; or meet CLIA-88 regulations with a minimum of 5 years histology experience.
  • Three years of immunohistochemical staining experience within the last 10 years is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgment in procedural and technical issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high complexity testing regulations.
  • Certification as HT or HTL (ASCP).

Responsibilities

  • Accurately process surgical pathology specimens, primarily grossing non-complex tissue specimens including biopsies and small excisions.
  • Utilize the Pathology Laboratory Information System effectively.
  • Assist with other laboratory duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and work efficiently in a high-volume environment.
  • Handle chemicals, reagents, and hazardous waste materials responsibly.
