About The Position

The Histology Technician performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by both pathologists and Mohs surgeons.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a chemical, physical, or biological science OR minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical terminology in any combination)

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment
  • Ability to work in a team and service oriented environment. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with physicians, providers and lab personnel.
  • Computer literate
  • Strong analytical judgement
  • Accuracy and close attention to detail
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment and terminology
  • Past histology experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Mohs technique (preferred but not required)
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine histology procedures including: specimen grossing, embedding, processing, slide preparation, H&E staining, special staining
  • Maintain the quality of all histology specimens, including verification of blocks and slides to case numbers to ensure correct patient labeling
  • Correctly prepare special stains and solutions
  • Performs routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issues
  • Participate in MOHs, if not trained, training will be provided
  • Adheres to quality control policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
