About The Position

The Histotechnician Trainee at Fulgent Therapeutics LLC is responsible for performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. This entry-level position requires working under direct supervision, following standard procedures, and participating in continuing education to prepare for certification. The role emphasizes maintaining diagnostic viability of specimens, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 6+ months experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences strongly preferred.
  • HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of laboratory equipment including microtome, stainer/cover slipper, and slide labeler.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Visual acuity including color discrimination and analytical skills to distinguish fine detail.
  • Ability to tolerate extensive periods seated and/or standing.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine histology tasks including specimen processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy, staining, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Prepare and maintain working solutions for routine H&E staining and special stains on automatic stainers.
  • Maintain diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensure correct patient labeling.
  • Check and verify surgical case numbers match blocks and slides; print labels as appropriate.
  • Record in laboratory logbooks to show that all slides and stains are prepared daily.
  • Log appropriate information into the surgical pathology computer system.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment failures.
  • Document remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests.
  • Follow appropriate laboratory safety protocols and adhere to quality control policies.
