About The Position

Digestive Disease Consultants is looking for a Grossing Histotech who is a warm and caring individual with infectious positive energy. The position is focused on patient care, providing an exceptionally high level of care for patients. The role involves working with a team of gastroenterologists and allied health professionals, specializing in treating a full range of digestive diseases. The Grossing Histotech will perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures, including specimen accessioning, grossing, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and operating instrumentation for immunohistochemical stains. This is a PRN position with variable start times during routine lab hours from Monday to Friday, 5 am to 3 pm.

Requirements

  • Meet qualifications for CLIA High Complexity Testing Personnel.
  • Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that includes specific coursework.
  • HT(ASCP) certification or registry eligible.
  • Previous experience in an anatomic pathology and histology laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures.
  • Accession specimens, including assigning case numbers to pathology specimens and verifying specimen jars correspond to the pathology requisition.
  • Prepare precision cuts using a microtome and stains according to established procedures.
  • Maintain stock of necessary reagents for all stains and processing utilized in the department.
  • Maintain equipment, instruments, and cleanliness of the working area.
  • Assist in retrieving blocks and slides for review and filing slides and blocks.
  • Assist in data entry with the lab LIS system.
  • Comply with all state, federal, CLIA, CAP, and other professional regulations as well as department rules, policies, and procedural manuals.
  • Follow established procedures to maintain a safe laboratory environment and meet all accreditation standards.
