About The Position

This Historical Interpreter I position will be responsible for general visitor services and interpretation at the new Thomas Day State Historic Site in Milton, North Carolina. This position will work with school groups and create compelling social media posts. This position will provide tours with context of furniture history and African American history.

Requirements

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of American history, especially African American history or pre-Civil War history.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs (Word, Excel, or Outlook).
  • Demonstrated experience speaking in public with a wide variety of people.
  • Demonstrated experience working at a historic site or museum.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of experience in giving museum tours OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with visitors of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Give general on-site and off-site presentations and assist with special events and programs on-site and off-site.
  • Assist with the planning for large field trip groups and lead tours for these groups.
  • Work collaboratively with other Education Branch staff to plan and work events/special tours.
  • Research and analyze primary and secondary sources to supplement existing tour materials and provide input on new tour development.
