About The Position

As the Historic Preservation Crew Member or the Historic Preservation Lead, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day maintenance functions that keep the park running smoothly. Job Summary: The Historic Preservation Carpenters are responsible responsible for delivering quality craftsmanship through assigned work orders and tasks. The position requires maintaining and securing equipment, adhering to safety protocols and regulations, and possessing competent knowledge of carpentry tools and their safe operation. The ideal candidate should have several years of general carpentry experience or equivalent expertise in the field. The Historic Preservation Lead must be proficient in supervising personnel and possess 5 years of hands-on preservation maintenance experience or equivalent. The Leads will perform skilled carpentry work to complete assigned restoration and maintenance tasks while ensuring tools and equipment are properly used and maintained. They must follow safety regulations and demonstrate strong craftsmanship. Candidates should have several years of carpentry experience or equivalent expertise. The Details: Position Type: Seasonal Season Dates: March 2026 - November 2026 (Actual season dates vary depending on location) Pay:$21.50 - $24.75/hour Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays) Why Yellowstone National Park? Requirements

  • 3 years general carpentry experience or equivalent.
  • Competent knowledge about the operation and safe use of all carpentry tools and equipment common to the trade.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must be proficient in supervising personnel in accordance with all Xanterra policies and procedures and 5 years of hands-on preservation maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • Competent knowledge about the operation and safe use of all carpentry tools and equipment common to the trade.
  • General knowledge of the National Park Service “Secretary of the Interior Standards” and how they apply to work in Yellowstone Park.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Fall Protection, Scaffolding, Lead, and Asbestos programs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Will require the use of respiratory protection and will require compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Must attend and complete the Class III Asbestos abatement and removal training and certification program within 90 days.
  • Must be capable of lifting and moving objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Must possess physical stamina to withstand heavy labor related to work in an outside environment.
  • Must be able to walk long distances over uneven terrain and climb stairs and ladders in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods of time as required.
  • Must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for quality craftsmanship work through assigned work orders and Tasks.
  • Assists with the care, maintenance and security of all assigned equipment and tools.
  • Responsible for working safe and complying with all current related codes and regulations.
  • Responsible for adhering to Xanterra’s Ecologix program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the daily on-site supervision of the Historic Preservation Crew.
  • Implements the planned and scheduled workload for repair and maintenance of all assigned historic preservation work orders and tasks.
  • Responsible for the care, maintenance and security of all assigned equipment and tools.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality and professional work is completed.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and makes sure the Crew is complying with all current related codes and regulations.
  • Assists with coordinating tasks with Engineering, park-wide trade personnel, location management, maintenance managers, and the National Park Service.
