The Historian position at Yosemite National Park is a temporary role focused on supporting historic preservation efforts through research and writing. The position involves collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act. The role is expected to last for an initial period of 13 months, with the possibility of extension up to four years.

  • Conduct historical research on various topics using primary and secondary sources.
  • Write reports and documents related to historical subjects and cultural resources.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) for Section 106 and Section 110.
  • Collaborate with architects and archeologists as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Assess areas of significance using National Register guidelines and criteria.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Degree in history or a related field with at least 18 semester hours in history, or a combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Ability to conduct historical research and write reports on historical topics.
  • Experience with National Register eligibility determinations.
  • Familiarity with historic preservation methods and practices.
