About The Position

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Histology Technician to support daily laboratory operations, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of histology specimens. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining histology lab equipment, monitoring inventory, and ensuring accurate data entry and documentation. Responsibilities include cleaning and sterilizing instruments, adhering to safety and quality control protocols, and supporting pathologists and other lab personnel as needed. Candidates must follow all California Department of Public Health (CA DPH) regulations and maintain any required licensure. This is a great opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or Associate’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in a clinical or hospital histology lab
  • Proof of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) if applicable
  • Strong understanding of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures, quality control standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CA DPH, CLIA, CAP)
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and lab information systems (LIS)
  • Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers
  • Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months
  • Current Annual Health Clearance
  • Reliable source of transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by ASCP (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including embedding, sectioning, and staining
  • Operate and maintain histology instruments (e.g., microtomes, tissue processors, staining equipment)
  • Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and tracking of specimens throughout processing
  • Adhere to safety, infection control, and quality assurance protocols
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and equipment
  • Monitor and replenish supplies and reagents as needed
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory personnel to support diagnostic workflows
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in specimen processing
  • Ensure compliance with CA DPH regulations and maintain licensures.
