About The Position

Who we’re looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Histology Technician with the Histology Team at Harborview Medical Center. Join a highly skilled, collaborative, patient-centered Histology team where your work plays a direct and critical role in disease diagnosis and life-changing treatment decisions. As a Histology Technician, you will prepare high-quality tissue slides that support pathology interpretation, ensuring timely results for patients and providers. Work schedule: Per Diem/As Needed Monday - Friday with no weekends or holidays Day shift What you’ll contribute: Perform routine procedures for services such as Histology, IHC and special stain. These procedures include processing, embedding, microtomy, cover slipping, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining, and special staining all types of tissue specimens received in the Histology Laboratory. Identify problems of improperly handled specimens and requests and notify the supervisor. Perform quality control of specimens, assure accurate specimen labeling, and distribute to the pathologist responsible for reviewing the case. Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety regulations. Prepare reagents and unpack the supplies following the department policies and procedures. Complete all instrument function verification, changing/rotating solutions, maintenance, and documents in accordance with lab procedures. Ensure that equipment defects and malfunctions are reported to the supervisor. Participate in and comply with regulatory and safety compliance. Maintain a neat, clean and orderly work area. Responsible for cleaning the microtome, filing blocks, and cleaning any soiled glassware at the end of the shift. Work independently and with other team members. Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Certified, or certified within two (2) years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
