About The Position

The Histology Technician position at Akahi Associates LLC involves performing qualitative and quantitative testing in a high complexity clinical laboratory at the Brooke Army Medical Center. The role requires the preparation and processing of various specimens for examination by pathologists, utilizing advanced histology techniques and ensuring quality control in laboratory operations.

Requirements

• Certificate in Histopathology or related field.
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology or eligibility for certification, to be completed within 2 years of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
• One year of relevant experience in histology.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process surgical, autopsy, bone marrow, body fluids, and biopsy specimens for examination.
• Prepare frozen sections of surgical specimens for microscopic examination.
• Prepare solutions for stains and special procedures.
• Perform advanced and specialized histology techniques.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and maintain records of maintenance.
• Identify quality control problems and participate in quality assurance monitoring.
• Communicate necessary information to Team Leader or Manager regarding issues and results.
• Act as a resource to customers within and outside the department.
• Review, update, and write histology laboratory procedures.
• Perform data entry/retrieval and assist with inventory of supplies.
