About The Position

Under general supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.

Requirements

• Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
• Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
• Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three (3) years of histological experience is required.
• Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Responsibilities

• Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.
• Gross, process, embed, cut, and stain surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
• Performs complex histologic procedures and analyzes and corrects problems using established scientific principles with some supervision.
• Reviews, records and analyzes data to support recommended judgments.
• Maintains instruments, utilizing established protocols.
• Follows established policies and procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
