Under general supervision, the Histology Technician performs all laboratory procedures as required according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Performs tests in a timely manner. Maintains standard in stat testing-both in and out patient.
Has ability to coordinate simultaneous tests/procedures accurately.
Performs and documents QC accurately.
Consistently determines acceptability/integrity of specimens.
Maintains safe/clean work area.
Produces and reports accurate results.
Performs maintenance troubleshooting effectively.
Correctly and safely embeds, cuts, labels and stains tissue specimens.
Correctly coverslips and labels all slides.
Accurately files all slides and blocks.
Consistently demonstrates teamwork.
Prioritizes workload based on volume.
Requirements
Associates Degree and HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) Certification, or eligible.
2 to 4 years of experience as a Histology technician.
Intermediate computer skills, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull.
Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as computer proficiency, with excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Experience in immunohistochemical staining and Cytology Preparation.
