Part-Time Histology Technician Contractor

Keros TherapeuticsLexington, MA
4d$65 - $78

About The Position

At Keros, our mission is to deliver significant clinical benefit to a wide range of patients with disorders that are linked to dysfunctional signaling of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-ß) family of proteins. With a focus on developing differentiated product candidates that are designed to alter TGF-β signaling, we aim to target the pathways critical for the growth, repair and maintenance of blood cells and a number of tissues, including bone, skeletal muscle, adipose and heart tissue. We believe our product candidates have the potential to unlock the full therapeutic benefits of modulating the TGF-β superfamily and provide disease-modifying benefit to patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing frozen tissues, performing routine and special stains on both frozen and formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples and working with cutting-edge AI and machine learning tools for image analysis. This role is crucial for supporting our research projects and requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work seamlessly with scientific staff.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a histology laboratory, preferably in a research or biotech setting.
  • Experience working with both frozen and FFPE samples and routine and special stains and IHC.
  • Experience with image analysis software and tools, such as Fiji, Nikon NIS-Elements, Bitplane Imaris, or Arivis Vision4D; previous work with AI (machine and deep learning) applications for image analysis is desirable.
  • Capacity to handle, organize, and analyze large datasets using Excel and GraphPad Prism, SPSS, or JMP Pro statistical analysis software.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work under limited supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with, prepare, and section frozen tissues using a cryostat and ensure high-quality sample preparation.
  • Perform routine and specialized immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF) staining procedures, including Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), Masson's Trichrome, Picrosirius Red and Fast Green (SRFG), and other histochemical stains on pre-processed, embedded, and sectioned FFPE specimens and frozen sections.
  • Assist in the development and optimization of new IF/IHC stains and protocols.
  • Operate and maintain brightfield, fluorescent, and slide scanning microscopes, ensuring they are in good working condition and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Utilize image analysis software to evaluate histological samples, including the application of AI and machine learning tools for enhanced image analysis.
  • Collaborate with scientists and researchers to understand project needs and ensure accurate and timely sample preparation and analysis.
  • Document and maintain detailed, accurate records of all histological procedures, sample processing, and results in electronic lab notebook.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
