Job Title: Histology Tech Cost Center: 201641117 Lab-Histology Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 Employee Type: Regular Work Shift: 8-hour day shifts, variable days (United States of America) Job Description: JOB SUMMARY Work Shift: Typical schedule is Mon, Tues and every other Wed with varying day shifts with early morning starts. This position may be eligible for a sign on bonus! The Histology Technician works under general supervision to assist the pathologist, Mohs surgeon or designee during the grossing of specimens and tissue samples. This individual prepares microscopic tissue samples, slides and performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis. Work may be performed in either a laboratory or clinical setting based on the specific practice support need. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation . Required Education : Successful completion of an accredited histotechnician program with a background in biology or chemistry. Preferred Education: Associate degree in a laboratory science or biology. EXPERIENCE Minimum Experience Required : None Preferred/Optional Experience : One year in a general histology lab or a Mohs laboratory, if primary focus is support of Mohs surgical practice. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position, which must be maintained in good standing: Minimum Required: Histology Technician (HT) or Histologist Laboratory Technologist (HTL) American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification within one year of hire. Valid Wisconsin driver's license with acceptable driving record. The Histology Technician will also be responsible for cutting frozen sections and assisting the pathologist with reporting frozen sections. The Histology lab is a NAACLS accredited school for Histology and Histology Technicians are encouraged to participate in the teaching process and perform lectures and training of students. Additionally, the Histology Technician will have the opportunity to train/work in the IHC area and the Muscle Biopsy frozen area.
