These duties include, but are not limited to, image acquisition, data extraction and analysis, image quality assurance, and implementation of new data software, and maintenance of the imaging database Maintenance of the imaging database requires the constant update of user information to ensure that the proper people have access to the database. The specialist will work directly with customers to design and create data analysis techniques, such as creating macros, to further their experiments. Additionally, the specialist must have the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues that might cause delays in the progress of experiments. Will occasionally need to train and educate core personnel and PIs on new techniques, software, and equipment, as well as providing guidance to work study students working in the lab. Standard histology testing includes grossing, cassetting, processing/embedding, sectioning, de-identification of samples as needed, H&E staining and special stains. The specialist will complete higher level laboratory experiments such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), in situ hybridization (FISH/ISH), multiplex assays, and their respective whole slide imaging using digital pathology equipment. In addition, they will also be responsible for completing sophisticated spatial omics experiments, combining automated biochemistry protocols, wet bench titration processes, while operating spatial omics equipment including appropriate imaging and complementary assays. This includes optimization of all high-level protocols to meet experiment needs. They will work with the client on the details of their project to maximize the amount of information obtained from histology and spatial omics experiments. They will work to keep equipment in functional conditions according to manufacturer guidelines as well as maintain the lab and working areas organized.
