About The Position

This position assists other personnel in the Histology Lab by helping with grossing, determining appropriate processing of tissue, accessioning specimens, and communicating with customers both verbally and electronically. The role includes performing any other non-technical duties as requested by the technical staff or supervisor.

Requirements

• High School or GED Equivalent
• Less than 1 year of relevant work experience
• Ability to work specified hours and perform essential job functions satisfactorily
• Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
• Effective communication skills

Responsibilities

• Assists PA or Pathologist with grossing specimens and determining processing techniques and times.
• Accession specimens into the system, ensuring correct labeling and completion of grossing sheets.
• Identifies and resolves routine specimen acceptability and test order problems, referring issues to appropriate individuals.
• Performs miscellaneous tasks such as specimen filing, sending reference lab specimens, and tissue disposal.
• Assists technical and support staff with various duties as needed.
• Helps with receiving and distributing supplies in the processing area.
• Assists with analysis, collection, and maintenance of records as required by regulatory agencies.
• Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
