About The Position

The Histology Assistant II position at Kootenai Health involves accessioning pathology specimens, preparing frozen sections for diagnosis, and assisting pathologists with specimen grossing and workstation preparation. Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum year of training and work experience in Histology, with 6 months Histology experience at Kootenai Health required
• Completion of Kootenai Health Preceptor Training within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Performs order entry in applicable LIS
• Receives specimens and performs all pre-analytical processes related to pathology examination
• Verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis or referral
• Troubleshoots problems and identifies and communicates needed updates to procedures
• Demonstrates customer service skills in answering phone calls and questions from internal and external healthcare staff
• Performs all assigned duties related to the designated area of the lab
• May assist in other areas of the lab if trained/competent
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
