We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated ASCP-certified immunohistochemistry technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be able to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate should have strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills and be familiar with Epic lab information systems. ASCP certification is required within one year of hire. QIHC certification and previous experience with Leica and Ventana staining platforms are a plus. Anticipated hours of work are Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. Position Highlights: Full-Time, 7:00am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday Anatomic Pathology Winston Campus EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in applied science or high school diploma/GED with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology. Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: HT (ASCP) certification preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Assures accurate and timely accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens, according to departmental practices. Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices. Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens. Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains. Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education. Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to listen and communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Manual dexterity, eyes and hand coordination. Technical ability and interest. Knowledgeable and proficient in all areas of the histology lab to include special stains and enzyme histochemistry. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise environment. Exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens or patients. Exposure to risk of bloodborne/airborne disease. Subject to cuts from microtome knives. Exposure to hazards for electrical/mechanical/power equipment. Possible exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens. Possible exposure to toxic/flammable/explosive chemicals and gases. Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment and sharps. Subject to many interruptions and stressful situations. Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection). Position requires working first, and/or second shift and limited weekend hours.
