About The Position

Performs all duties related to the preparation of surgical and autopsy specimens to be examined by a Pathologist. Performs special stains to aid in identification of the diagnosis or disease state. Assist pathologist during the gross processing of surgical specimens. Using frozen section technique, prepare slides for the pathologist to view for rapid diagnosis.

Responsibilities

Accurately embeds, cuts, stains and coverslips tissue sections from surgical, autopsy and cytology specimens.
Assists Section Supervisor in the performance of her duties as requested.
Must have good reasoning ability.
Must have the ability to organize work and to meet deadlines.
Participates in the performance of Quality Control procedures.
Performs all other duties as assigned or directed within scope of department needs and capabilities.
Performs rapid H & E and Diff-quik staining on tissue specimen slides.
Performs troubleshooting, maintenance and repair procedures on tissue processors, cryostats, and microtomes as required.
Prepares specimens by Frozen Section technique.
Prepares tissue specimens for gross examination.
Responsible for performance of special stains.
Responsible to assist pathologist in fine Needle Aspiration Procedure of Palpable Masses.
Verifies that required information has been provided on the requisition and that the specimen has been properly submitted and fixed.
Willingness to take call evenings and weekends; as well as work weekends and holidays as required.
