This individual is responsible for accessioning and preparing specimens for gross examination, maintaining logs and preparing specimens for transport to the histology laboratory. He/she may perform routine and limited special stains for immediate diagnosis. Other duties include weighing and measuring specimens, assisting with the gross, embedding specimens, operating the tissue processor and cutting. He/she will also assist with fine needle aspirates, biopsies, frozen sections, autopsies and cytological specimen preparation and staining to provide data in the functioning of tissue and organs, causes and/or progress of disease. Clerical duties include completing histology computer work, gathering workload data as requested by supervisor and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies as indicated by supervisor.
