About The Position

The Office of Hispanic Ministry assists Pastors in their mission to evangelize and support the pastoral needs of the culturally diverse communities of Spanish speaking Catholics in their communities and to fully integrate them into the life of their parish. The Office provides this assistance through the close collaboration and coordination with parish, school, and diocesan ministry leadership as well as related community organizations and lay movements, training and development offerings, diocesan-sponsored events, and advocacy efforts. Under the direction of the Director of Hispanic Ministry, the Program Specialist for Hispanic Ministry Programs supports the development, coordination, and facilitation of programs and events led by the Office of Hispanic Ministry across the Diocese. The Program Specialist also manages key digital media and communications efforts to promote ministry initiatives, enhance outreach, and foster engagement within the Hispanic Catholic community.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic teachings, traditions, and practices.
  • Understanding of parish ministry and diocesan structures.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to the Hispanic community.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and proofreading.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • BS or BA in theology, communications, public relations, journalism, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Must maintain a current driver’s license.
  • Three to five years of professional ministry experience in communications, project management, public relations, marketing or social media.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Premiere) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with diocesan offices, parish leaders, and ministry partners to ensure effective programming, planning, participation, and quality delivery for assigned programs, which include but may not be limited to: Quinceañera Retreat Ministry, Conference for the Engaged (Spanish), Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion workshops (Spanish), Pastoral Juvenil events, USCCB Pastoral Plan in-services, Hispanic Diocesan Committee meetings
  • Manage planning timelines, registration, materials, vendor coordination, hospitality, and day-of execution.
  • Provide basic budget tracking and administrative support for assigned programs.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Director regarding program progress, challenges, and recommended improvements.
  • Assist with logistics and on-site support for diocesan and parish-level events, including retreats, workshops, conferences, meetings, and formation programs beyond those assigned.
  • Build and maintain relationships with parish leaders and community members to support culturally responsive ministry programming.
  • Promote diocesan Hispanic ministry initiatives and encourage parish participation.
  • Serve as a resource to parishes by sharing materials, best practices, and relevant information that supports Hispanic Catholic life and formation.
  • Create and distribute mass emails and digital publications; maintain consistent branding, tone, and adherence to diocesan communications policies and best practices.
  • Develop media content and event materials as needed, including, but not limited to, flyers, posters, bulletins and web announcements.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors for special projects.
  • Stay current on communications trends and ministry best practices; participate in ongoing formation and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Hispanic Ministry.
