About The Position

The HIM Tech (coding support) obtains documents needed for chart coding completion, runs reports, maintains weekly and monthly accounts receivable, and assists coders and managers as needed for the Peaks HIM coding team. Essential Functions Works HIM HB Coding Dashboard daily to ensure the coding team has documentation needed to complete coding on charts. This includes calling, faxing, emailing, and messaging providers and departments for missing documentation. Assigns high dollar charts to coders each day, works national provider identifier (NPI) list, and removes Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) on class changes Report running and maintenance of spreadsheets for data collection (daily AR, volumes report, over 15-day report, code holds, HIM WQ trending reports, and others). Completes malnutrition spreadsheet for three care sites. Attendance and minutes for coding team meetings. Works state edits for Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) and Montana Hospital Association (MHA). Assists as needed with billing/audit questions to ensure accurate reimbursement, facility inquiries, education, and statistical analysis. Adds billing indicator in Epic for coding rebills. Faxes/uploads Inpatient Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) Validation denials to multiple insurance companies. Works with patient access to ensure patient class is correct and for correction of registration/system errors, works with data integrity to ensure documents are on the correct visit, and works with revenue guardian team to ensure charges are correct.

  • Ongoing need for caregiver to see and read information, labels, monitors, and documents on a computer screen; identify and monitor equipment and supplies and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that requires employee to verbally communicate, hear, and understand spoken needs, issues, and information, quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree, Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Demonstrate understanding of hospital billing, reimbursement, and compliance
  • Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
