About The Position

HIM Specialist About the Role: Southwoods Health is seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist to manage the retrieval, distribution, and filing of medical records. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) through accurate scanning, indexing, and data analysis to support patient care and legal requirements.

Requirements

• Experience: 1+ year of HIM-related experience and medical terminology knowledge (preferred).
• Compliance: Strong understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
• Tech Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fast, accurate keyboarding/computer skills.
• Communication: Ability to interact tactfully with physicians, management, and peers.
• Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry and time management.

Nice To Haves

• Experience: 1+ year of HIM-related experience and medical terminology knowledge (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Data Integrity: Navigate the EMR and Master Patient Index (MPI) to ensure patient data is accurate and updated.
• Records Management: Collect, scan, and index medical records according to facility policies.
• Quality Control: Identify and correct chart deficiencies and errors.
• Privacy & Security: Maintain strict confidentiality and physical safety of all medical records.
• Communication: Handle department phone calls and inquiries professionally.
• Release of Information: Respond to requests for medical records in compliance with medical-legal requirements and HIPAA.
• Department Support: Assist with performance improvement activities and other duties as assigned.
