About The Position

Responsible for ensuring the security, confidentiality, completeness, and accuracy of the medical records of GFC and all additional Ancillary departments in accordance with policies and procedures within the guidelines of HIPAA and GFC Compliance Policies. Utilizes EHR to maintain patient medical records. Receives, reviews and responds to all correspondence or requests for release of information and maintain a log on all information requested and released. Responds to large volume audit requests. Assists in answering the telephone. Ability to work in a fast paced, continuously changing environment with demanding turnaround times. Understands and maintains department compliance with CMS regulations and company policy. Supports the HIM Department by performing other tasks as requested when a need arises. Receives direction from: HIM Supervisor and HIM Director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Any office setting with equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
  • Principles and practices of medical record keeping for acute and ambulatory care services
  • Medical terminology
  • Federal and state laws and regulations related to medical records content, privacy, release and retention
  • Principles and practices of health information record systems
  • Uses and limitations of medical records
  • Office procedures
  • Basic math including addition and subtraction
  • Computer applications
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of CMS regulations
  • Must have good organization skills and ability to prioritize work based on requests
  • Knows courteous and professional telephone etiquette and gust relations
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Needs to be skilled in alphabetical and numerical filing principles, sorting and data entry
  • Strong computer skills, able to prioritize, analyze and delegate
