About The Position

This candidate will work collaboratively with multiple facilities to procure records and send them to providers for review. The position will be responsible for working with Clinical and Operational Leadership to support record recovery needs to ensure teams have minimum necessary information to provide quality patient care. The health information management specialist serves as a key role in always ensuring/maintaining the integrity of the health record and follows/educates teams on ensuring all records incoming or outgoing adhere to HIPAA compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • Excellent detail orientation and organizational skills
  • Above average level of comfortability with multiple EMRs, Microsoft suite applications including Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strict HIPAA compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in a health information or records management role desired
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and state release of records rules
  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods.
  • Visual acuity and fine motor skills.

  • Certification in a health information field a plus

Responsibilities

  • Practice the WellBe mission: To help our patients lead healthier, meaningful lives by delivering the most Complete Care.
  • Serves as the market liaison between the health information management department and clinical providers. As such, attends periodic market Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
  • Requesting medical records from other healthcare providers
  • Send medical records from WellBe providers to collaborating providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Index and distribute incoming medical records and diagnostic results to providers for review.
  • Indexing electronic patient consents & HIPAA authorizations
  • Utilize task functions in electronic medical record system to communicate, coordinate, and manage incoming medical record requests.
  • Process release of information requests: including patient requests, legals, government, insurance, continuity of care requests.
  • Protect security of medical records to ensure compliance is maintained.
  • Develop relationships with key hospital personnel, clinical care teams, and providers.
  • Other duties as required by the Supervisor to accomplish team’s objectives/goals.
