About The Position

What you will be doing: HIM Senior Specialist Provide HIM support in maintaining the Department’s paper and electronic health record system. Understand privacy and security guidelines related to patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance. Keep all patient information confidential. Learn and navigate efficiently within an electronic health record. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language. Work in a fast-paced environment and develop sound professional working relationships. Perform advanced functions within the Health Information Management Department. Manage Document Imaging, including prepping, scanning, quality review/validation, and indexing. Analyze medical records for completion and assign provider deficiencies as needed. Support missing documentation and provider queries as needed. Complete birth and/or death certificates in accordance with state law. Perform chart pick-up (rounding) and reconciliation. Execute data integrity duties as assigned (chart correction, duplicate medical records, etc.). Meet productivity expectations based on job function. Maintain productivity metrics and monitor time for productivity. Assist internal and outside agencies with patient record information. Answer phones, process continuity of care requests, record retrieval, and record filing as assigned. Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a hospital Health Information Management Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: RHIT or RHIA Certification.
