About The Position

The HIM Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and staffing of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at UofL Health. This role includes managing various functions such as Release of Information, Transcription, Chart Prep, Scanning, Indexing, Analysis, and ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards. The manager will interact with hospital staff, physicians, and revenue cycle team members to enhance departmental performance and patient care.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED required.
  • Must have and maintain either an AHIMA RHIA or RHIT credential.
  • 5 years of prior HIM operations and management experience required.
  • Prior experience working as a privacy officer is a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are required.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, organizational, problem solving, multitasking, written and oral communication, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, organize, and coordinate daily operations of the HIM Department.
  • Identify training development needs and supervise training and education for staff.
  • Establish productivity standards and provide feedback on job performance.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of staff compliance with workflow processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of CMS and Joint Commission regulatory standards and HIPAA/HITECH statutes.
  • Plan and facilitate employee engagement initiatives to maintain morale.
  • Educate physicians on documentation standards to ensure compliance.
  • Provide input on department budget and HIM performance improvement plans.
  • Monitor documentation compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Assume day-to-day direction of HIM Department in the absence of the Director.
  • Model Core Behavior standards and conduct staff rounding.
  • Complete annual competency evaluations in a timely manner.
