Job Description: Position Summary and Purpose The MPI Integrity Technician is responsible for maintaining an accurate Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) by performing electronic merges within Health Information Management Systems (HIMS) when duplicate or other medical record number issues are identified, under the direction of the HIMS Data Integrity Analyst. Communicates with multiple departments house-wide to coordinate correct and accurate patient information and other required data for new and existing registrations. Responsible for auditing of MRN and duplicate encounter creation. The HIM MPI Integrity Technician also supports patient matching activities for the health information exchange. Interact as needed with internal customers to include but not limited to hospital staff, physicians and their offices, and other revenue cycle team members. Actively participates in department and hospital performance initiatives when needed to ensure ULH success. Essential Functions: • Identifies, researches, and corrects data integrity issues within the Master Patient Index (MPI). • Communicates MPI data integrity issues to all impacted ancillary departments. • Receives, processes, and analyzes health information for completeness, timeliness and accuracy. • Audits accuracy of electronic and manual entry and facilitates resolution of any discrepancies. • Assists with the daily operations of the department and departmental related projects/processes. • Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Job Description: Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification) Education: • High School education or GED required. Experience: • Minimum of 1-year experience in an HIM setting required. • Previous experience in a hospital HIM department preferred or will consider medical office experience. • Prior MPI experience, preferred Job Competency: Skills, Knowledge or Abilities critical to this role: • Advanced customer service skills both in person and over the phone. • Demonstrated ability to work independently. • Experience meeting deadlines and / or productivity standards required. • Maintain a high-level of confidentiality and data integrity required. • High degree of accuracy. • Knowledge of health information demographics and Master Patient Index features required. • Excellent organizational and team building skills. Language Ability: • Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats. Reasoning Ability: • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills to find solutions to difficult problems. • Collaborative skills to effectively work in group problem solving and process improvement activities. Computer Skills: • Proficient use of computers and the ability to learn new software applications.
