About The Position

The Director, Health Information Management (HIM), provides strategic leadership and oversight for functions and teams related to HIIM Data Integrity or Regulatory operations. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains the integrity of health information systems, and promotes efficient operations to support organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required
  • 7-9 years of acute-care management experience in HIIM required
  • Strong experience in HIM Regulatory or HIM Chart Analysis/Medical Record Integrity preferred
  • Strong knowledge of health information management standards, including HIPAA and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems and other health information technologies.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and training abilities to support staff development.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for operational and compliance challenges.
  • RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Health Information Management and Informatics or other business/healthcare field preferred
  • 5-7 years of project management or consulting experience preferred
  • RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manages relationships with contracted Release of Information (ROI) and record storage vendors to ensure quality, timeliness, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Oversees medical record retention, storage, and destruction processes in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for confidentiality, release of information, record storage, data security, and medical record retention.
  • Monitors organizational readiness for audits and regulatory compliance, including HIPAA and Joint Commission standards, and leads corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Provides oversight for task queue management and data integrity processes within designated electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Tracks and trends issues related to data accuracy and provides coaching and feedback to Centralized Data Analysts and QA Analysts.
  • Provides education and training on state and federal regulations related to health information management and data integrity.
  • Directs the resolution of issues related to ROI or record storage, escalating to HIIM leadership when vendor performance does not meet expectations.
  • Ensures integrity and accuracy of medical records through systematic monitoring and reporting.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and develops staff to support efficient and compliant health information management operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
