About The Position

The HIM Coding, Coder/Abstractor II position involves assigning diagnosis and procedure codes based on documentation present on records for correct reimbursement and statistical databases. The role requires accuracy and completeness in coding inpatient and same day care charts, meeting established productivity standards, and entering codes into Meditech while completing abstracts accurately. The coder must stay informed of current coding rules, regulations, and principles, and utilize both ICD and CPT coding systems appropriately. Participation in the CDMP program and weekend/holiday rotation is also required, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school graduate and equivalent secondary education skills.
• Must be a graduate of a Health Information Technology program or certified by AHIMA or have equivalent experience coding in a hospital for three years or more.
• Graduate of Health Information Technology program preferred.
• Coding experience required as above.
• Experience with Meditech and Microsoft Word preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigns codes accurately and completely to inpatient and same day care charts.
• Meets productivity standards established for the type of records coded.
• Enters codes into Meditech and completes abstract accurately.
• Stays informed of all current coding rules, regulations, and principles.
• Uses both ICD and CPT coding systems to assign codes as appropriate.
• Participates in CDMP program as appropriate and instructed.
• Participates in weekend and holiday rotation as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
