About The Position

Collects and maintains data on all malignancies as well as specific benign or borderline malignancies diagnosed and/or treated at Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics. Respond to requests form authorized individuals for information complied in the registry. The Cancer Registrar serves as the expert representative regarding Cancer Registry functions. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 1-2 years experience; Cancer Registry work experience preferred
  • Oncology Data Specialist Required within 1 year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Identifies patients with diagnosis of malignant cancer and/or specific benign tumors or conditions meeting CMH eligibility criteria. Adds new case to registry database (Oncolog), maintains a suspense/accession list, and abstracts all patient cases.
  • Performs analysis on data collected to monitor patient treatment and outcomes. Information collected but not limited to demographics, diagnostic findings, cancer staging, cancer treatment, clinical trial participation, and long-term follow-up.
  • Performs long term follow up on all cancer registry cases as required by facility, local and national guidelines.
  • Collects, prepares, and maintains required elements to support the day-to-day Cancer Registry Department Operations. Acts as Liaison to Missouri State Central Cancer Registry that report to NPCR/CDC governing agencies.
